The Outcome

I wanted to note down what my yoga teacher said today, lest I forget…

She said that the outcome matters much less than the learning, the struggling, the living life whilst waiting for it.

She said marrying the man of your dreams wouldn’t make you happier than each minute falling and being in love with him. That getting your dream job wouldn’t make you richer if each day spent getting it is excruciating, poor and demoralising. That finally managing a headstand in your yoga practice doesn’t make you a better person on the day you die.

She said the nectar is in all the little things in between, and sometimes we are so focused on outcomes, so keen to get to them, that we forget that life in the meanwhile is worth it, too. I like being reminded that life in the meanwhile is worth it, too.
